Hudson Valley Honor Flight

Hudson Valley Honor Flight (HVHF) is a 501c3 nonprofit organization which “Honors American Veterans” for all their sacrifices. They transport these heroes to Washington, D.C. to visit their memorials at no cost to them.   Hudson Valley Honor Flight is a local hub of the National Honor Flight Network (which consists of over 100 independent non-profit “hubs” across America).

Hudson Valley Honor Flight flies multiple times a year out of Stewart International Airport & Westchester County Airport. HVHF serves veterans from the following counties: Orange (NY), Ulster (NY), Dutchess (NY), Westchester (NY), Rockland (NY), Sullivan (NY), Putnam (NY), Pike (PA), Bergen (NJ), and Fairfield (CT). Veterans from other surrounding counties will be considered as well.

Top priority is given to veterans of World War II, and terminally ill veterans from other wars. They plan to take ALL veterans from other wars on future flights. Applications will be kept on file.  Escorts to help the veterans during the trip are also provided.

If you are, or know of a World War II veteran, please pass along this information.  If we have a few World War II veterans who are interested in going to Washington, D.C. to see their Memorial, we may be able to provide transportation from Rockland County to Stewart Airport, where the flights leave to go to Washington, D.C., if we find there is a need for this.

So if you'd like to make the trip, and need transportation from Rockland to Stewart Airport, please call us at the Veterans Service Agency of Rockland at 845-638-5244 and we'll see what can be arranged for upcoming flights.

For further information about the program, contact Beth Vought, Executive Director, Hudson Valley Honor Flight via e-mail:  You can also view their webpage at:

Nyack School Board Meeting Affecting Veterans

The Nyack School Board has placed the issue of granting a partial exemption on School Taxes to Veterans for public comment at their next meeting on Tuesday, January 19th, 2016. The January 19th meeting will be held at Nyack Middle School, 98 South Highland Avenue in Nyack, New York 10960.

We need a maximum turnout of Veterans, at these meetings! If the district grants the exemption, there will be a small increase in taxes for non-veteran homeowners, so there is a possibility that people will attend to speak AGAINST the proposal. (See Nyack School District web site
for more details).

We hope to have a large turnout to make this happen. Recruit friends and family and non-veterans who support us to attend, sit with us, and speak out in favor of the proposal. Three districts in Rockland County have granted this benefit to Veterans: North Rockland, Clarkstown and South Orangetown. Let’s make Nyack the fourth district to say to their students that they honor and respect the service of those who sacrificed to keep America free! Four Chaplains Memorial Service

The Rockland County Four Chaplains Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, February 7th, 2016 at the Tappan Reformed Church, 32 Old Tappan Road in Tappan, New York 10983.  This will coincide with the regular Church service.  The event is hosted by The American Legion John M. Perry Post #1044 of Sparkill, New York.  Light refreshments will be served at the Manse House across the street from the Church after the Memorial Service.

February 3rd, 2016 will mark the historic 70th anniversary of the sinking of the United States Army Transport Dorchester and the legendary acts of selflessness of four Army chaplains who were aboard. Four Chaplains Day, as Congress has declared the date, honors the four chaplains who went down with their ship, as they gave their life jackets to other passengers.

The Four Chaplains – sometimes called the Immortal Chaplains – were men from four different religions who sacrificed their lives for men of all faiths. In the 70 years since the incident, Methodist minister George L. Fox, Reformed Church in America minister Clark V. Poling, Roman Catholic priest John P. Washington and Rabbi Alexander B. Goode have been immortalized with commemorative postage stamps, a Congressionally recognized anniversary and numerous re-tellings of their heroics.

Bob Hope Division to Montrose VA Nursing Home

Without us helping them, many would be unable to attend the show.

The nursing home is located at: 2090 Albany Post Road, (Route 9) Montrose, NY 10548.  For further information, contact Chip Hayes at:

North Rockland NJROTC

The Navy Junior ROTC unit at North Rockland High School will be hosting the NJROTC AREA 4 Nationals Academic, Athletic & Drill Championship. You are cordially invited to attend the meet on Saturday,  February 6th at the high school. 15 Schools will be vying to represent the Northeast Region at the NJROTC Nationals Academic, Athletic & Drill Championship in Pensacola, Florida in April.

As in past years, we are offering our supporters the opportunity to sponsor meet trophies for $25 each. Checks can be made out to NRNJROTC.   In addition to trophies, the proceeds will go toward scholarships for graduating cadets. Thanks to the generosity of you and other strong supporters, 15 graduating Cadets were awarded scholarships last year.
